Perkedel

Perkedel

Perkedel is a traditional Indonesian dish that consists of deep-fried potato patties. The potatoes are usually mashed and mixed with spices, such as shallots, garlic, and coriander, as well as eggs and flour to bind the mixture. The resulting mixture is formed into small patties and deep-fried until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Perkedel can be served as a side dish or as a snack, and it is often accompanied by a dipping sauce, such as chili sauce or kecap manis (sweet soy sauce). It is a popular dish in Indonesia and is commonly found in street food stalls, restaurants, and home-cooked meals.

Ingredients:

·         4 medium potatoes, peeled and boiled until soft

·         2 shallots, finely chopped

·         2 garlic cloves, minced

·         2 tablespoons of coriander leaves, finely chopped

·         1 egg, beaten

·         2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour

·         Salt and pepper to taste

·         Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

1.    Mash the boiled potatoes in a mixing bowl until smooth.

2.    Add the chopped shallots, minced garlic, and chopped coriander to the mashed potatoes.

3.    Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.

4.    Add the beaten egg and flour to the mixture, and stir until everything is well combined.

5.    Shape the mixture into small patties, about 2-3 inches in diameter.

6.    Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

7.    Once the oil is hot, add the perkedel patties to the pan and fry until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.

8.    Remove the perkedel from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

9.    Serve hot with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as chili sauce or kecap manis.

Enjoy your homemade perkedel!
